About SkillSlate

What We Do

SkillSlate is an auction site for local services that crowdsources the best people to apply for any job you need done.

For Service Professionals

Service professionals can sign-up for SkillSlate for free, and when a consumer posts a relevant service request in their area, we'll send them more potential business by inviting them to apply for the job. Service professionals also get a great-looking permanent online business profile which can be found on www.skillslate.com, or through Google and other search engines. SkillSlate also provides other marketing tools such as a simple one-click post-to-Craigslist tool with email reminders to re-post.

Our Team

Bartek

Bartek Ringwelski

Co-founder and CEO

After graduating from Columbia College, Bartek worked as an investment banker in the technology group at UBS in San Francisco where he says he was given what he describes as an "irresponsible level" of responsibility. Having worked on 5 M&A deals valued at over $2bn, he came to his senses and moved back to NYC to work as a venture capitalist focusing on digital media investments in the NY-Area. After working on seven financings, three of which were new investments, Bartek became bored with the finance world. After having difficulty finding a reliable cleaning person for his converted 1-bedroom apartment, he decided to take the plunge into the entrepreneur world and co-found SkillSlate.

Bartek is also responsible for taping the $2 bill to the Bear Stearns HQ, marking the beginning of the financial apocalypse of 2008 (and the empowerment of the individual service provider).

Concurrently, Brian served as Team Lead for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) across the $1B Local Marketplaces & Commerce division where he helped drive millions of monthly SEO visits to multiple Yahoo! properties. Previously, he also started two companies; an online ticket brokerage company and a niche private equity company. Mike

Mike Nelson

CTO

Before SkillSlate, Mike went to college at the University of Southern Maine where he studied both Mechanical Engineering and Computer Science. During college, Mike got involved with a golf startup where he developed BlackBerry and Android applications as well as wrote a Ruby on Rails webapp that has served nearly 100k golfers over the past few years. Once getting involved with SkillSlate, Mike found a place working alongside the founders where he was able to utilize his skills to improve SkillSlate's customer experience and overall direction.

Outside of work, Mike enjoys riding his motorcycle, watching not-so-believable network television series with his wife, and working on open source projects.
